About Kevin S. Hennessy

Mr. Hennessy’s practice focuses on administrative, environmental, governmental and land use law, with particular experience in litigation in those areas of law. He is a founding member of Lewis, Longman and Walker, P.A. and has over 35 years of experience representing clients in litigation and negotiation of environmental permit and enforcement issues, land development, property rights, local government issues, coastal construction matters, water rights, wetland issues, hazardous waste and contamination issues, condemnation and eminent domain.  

Kevin is a Martindale Hubbell AV® Rated attorney and is listed in Tampa Magazine’s 2025 Top Lawyers List. He is also listed in  Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Environmental Law, Environmental Litigation and Land Use and Zoning Law. Kevin serves as President of the Environmental Law Network and is a member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources and the Florida Bar’s Environmental and Land Use Law Section. He is an active member of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, and is an alumni of Leadership Pinellas, and of the Florida Natural Resource Leadership Institute.

Kevin has written and lectured on several topics including public records law, sunshine law, collaborative decision making, coastal construction, water law, administrative law, greenwashing, and environmental litigation.    

Kevin received his B.A. in 1983 from Wake Forest University and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 1986 from the University Of Miami School Of Law, Coral Gables. 

About Nicole J. Poot

Ms. Poot’s practice focuses on environmental and natural resources law, governmental law, land use law and administrative, civil and appellate litigation. She has written and presented on several topics including public records law and property rights. 

Nicole serves as Vice Chair of the Government Law Section for the St. Pete Bar, and serves on the Editorial Committee for the Bar’s Paraclete publication. She is also an active member of the Florida Bar’s City, County and Local Government Law Section, and the Clearwater Bar Association.

During law school, Nicole served as Student Editor of the Journal of International Wildlife Law and Policy, President of the Stetson Environmental Law Society, Treasurer of the Brewer Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta and Center Fellow for the International Programs Office at Stetson University. 

In 2022, Nicole was listed as a Florida Rising Star in Administrative Law and since 2024 was identified on Tampa Magazine Top Lawyers List, Environmental Law and Water Law and by Best Lawyers in America on its “Ones to Watch” list in Environmental Law, Land Use and Zoning Law and Environmental Litigation.

Nicole received her Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law with a concentration in Environmental Law. She earned an Honors Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Biology from McMaster University.
